Yes, it is actually quite easy to maintain fruit-fly cultures at home.
You can do it with a home-made set-up or by supplies designed for fruit
fly culture, as well as starter cultures (wild type, vestigial, curly,
etc.) I know that last time I looked, a couple of years ago, you could
get this stuff from Carolina Biological Supply.
