Subject: Pine needles

I've heard people mention before on this list that they put a layer of
chopped pine needles in the bottom of outdoor bogs and pots to increase
the acidity of the soil. Does anyone know if spruce needles have the
same effect? Also, does it make a big difference as far as overall
plant health?
