Subject: ants

My story on ants:

i don't car a whole lot for them. they made a farm in one of my
darlingtonia, (the only one that a had a flower bud this year) and totally
arrested any further development.

Up above, in the bright direct sunshine I have the more hearty sarracenia
growing in full sunlight. I love to watch the opaque pitchers, backlit
from the noonday sun, as the shadow of little specks struggling to crawl
out jitter aound as if subjected to electrical charge. I love to pry
open the lid and peer in to witness the little buggers teeming around,
crawling on top of each other.

one day i saw a big stream of ants ascending and descending my Alata
'typica.' I smiled and considered all the batallions of insects marching
towards their death. I pried open open the lid to see that the assembled
mass was stirring with a peculiar motion..... the buggers were trying to
liberate a dead wasp out of the pitcher! I'm lucky that the pitcher tube
was not more full or they might have succeeded.

I've heard of ants raiding Venus Flytraps and they will unite to pillage
Sarracenia as well.

Growers Beware!
