Hi Rick,
        I would be a little worried about what I was introducing along
with the mosses. In addition to the soil problem you mentioned, you might
be bringing any number of pests in with the mosses. Some of those bugs
might be things that like to eat seeds, or munch on tender seedlings.
Also, woodland soils tend to be rich in fungus which could cause
problems. I usually sow seeds either on the medium I plan to grow the
plants in, or on milled sphagnum. That usually works pretty well. Just my
thoughts.
