CP Conservation,etc

Dear All

Sorry to keep jumping in and out of the discussions on cp
conservation, mapping cps, etc, but I'd like to raise a few issues.
Firstly, I would like to mention again that
IUCN's (World Conservation Union based in Switzerland) Carnivorous Plant
Specialist Group (CPSG) was established as a
link between all the cp groups worldwide and is international in its
approach to cp conservation and research. With its contacts
worldwide, it is hoped that we can start organising
conservation and research projects worldwide by working with existing
conservation agencies and fund-raising. Groups, such as ICPS and
other national/regional cp groups and all their members, will
obviously prove instrumental in the success of these projects. I'd
welcome any suggestions for projects.

The CPSG is also working on an Action Plan for cps (due out by the end
of next year). This will draw together as much of the info on cps as
possible. However, you can never get such a document as up-to-date as
you'd like and comments and contributions would be most welcome
throughout its preparation and after its published. This is one
possible 'outlet' for hobbyist/conservationist/anyone itching to get
some work done. I have a request for those of you knowledgeable about
cps and their habitats in Canada. The Action Plan will include regional
reviews and I would welcome support from someone or a co-ordinated group
of people to write a review for Canada. If you reply to me in person I
can discuss timeframe, topics to be covered, etc. There are no funds to
compensate anyone for their work(sorry), but you will be credited in the
Plan and your efforts will go towards pinpointing where our efforts
should lie in the future.

Hopefully, the Atlanta Meeting next May will prove a turning point in cp
groups working together in a productive way. I'm aware not everyone can
afford to get there, but this listserver could prove useful in
discussing various points from individuals and groups who can't make it
and these could then be raised at the meeting.

Look forward to some replies......

Mad xxxx
