Hello Folks,
I have several clones of the all red vft. Two 'Royal Red' and the
rest un-named. Most are seedlings. I have also seen in the flesh so to
speak, the 'Red DRagon'
There is very little difference between them really except that
Royal red seems to be green along the edge of the trap, including the
teeth. The rest do not do this unless sunburned.
I have noticed that unless strong light is provided, all lose the
red colour and revert to a strange greenish hue. This regardless of the
soil mix. I have not noticed colour differences due to soil, but as I am
about to recieve 100 red dragons, I will have lots to play with.
An aside, I have noticed that with certain Sarracenia forms, red
colouration is strongest after the Summer rest (Ss. leucophylla, certain
flava and rubra forms) or after the first frost (Ss. jonesii and some
purpurea venosa AND purpurea strains). With the all red S. flava and S.
alata though the red is strongest in the early summer with the fall trpas
looking decidedly washed out.
And of course we all know that to get the beautiful red colour in
our Droseras we need good strong light...right!
Good growing
Andrew
