Although Jan has already provided an expert reply, there is one
reference I saw recently to the subject of how Drosophyllum (and other
Iberian flora) may also be found in northern Africa. In the article:

Ortega Olivencia, A., Jarasco Claver, J.P., and Devesa Alcaraz, J.A.,
"Floral and reproductive biology of Drosophyllum Lusitanicum",
Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society, 118:331-351, 1995

the authors list a reference to a book about the geographic history of
this area and its influence on floral geography. Unfortunately, I don't
have the article here at work with me at the moment, so I can't give you
the reference they mention. I'll try to post it on Tuesday (Monday's a
holiday here).
