I've never heard this recommendation. Possibly you might gain some
advantage, but I've never applied fertilizer myself.

Despite this, one of my Sarracenia seedling (sown early 1995 from
Barry Meyers-Rice's seed) now has pitchers up to 5in / 12cm, which I
think is fairly good going for a year. I should say that my
Darlingtonia don't make anywhere near such rapid progress.
