Perhaps we men don't run the societies (or academia) in a manner conducive to
the participation of women. ;-) Please, I don't mean to start a flame war
over such a sore point in our society as a whole. I just mention this
because of the experiences women friends and family have related to me over
the years. Unfortunatly, there are many people who discourage women's
participation in the sciences, and here at the University of California we
have more than our fair share of reprehensible behavior.
