Drosera flower spikes

Now that I have a variety of Drosera blooming at the same time,
I've notice something strange...most of the plants produce spikes
which grow vertically from the center of the rosette. D.aliciae
is doing something totally different. As the spike grows, it
unrolls horizontally along the top most layer of leaves until it
reaches the outer edge of the rosette and then it straightens
up and grows vertically until it reaches maximum height (about
4 inches for mine). I thought this was accidental when the first
spike was produced but I have a second one which has done the
    exact same thing.
Anyone else see this behavior or is my plant doing something
unusual because of some environmental condition?
