Hello All, I just found out about this list off of the Hobby Greenhouse
List. My name is Clint and I manage the greenhouse facility for the
Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of
Connecticut. Our facility houses one of the most diverse research and
teaching collections in the Northeastern US with over 3400 accessions in
more than 215 families. We are striving to acquire & maintain at least one
specimen from each of the higher plant families as well as maintain special
sub-collections such as orchids, aquatics and carnivorous plants. I look
forward to talking (& trading ?) with many of you in the months to come.
Those of you with World wide Web access can check out our collections info
at the URL listed at end of page.
I guess I should be honest and say that our CP collection is not as healthy
as I would like to see it. Our water supply is alkaline and environmental
control is kind of an oxy-moron at this point. But rest assured we are
working to correct these deficiencies and I will definitely be seeking out
cultural assistance from the list members.
At the moment I am considering adding a small Ebb & Flood table for our
CP's, most of which are currently in Belden Jumbo Squares (about a 5.5" SQ
pot) in live sphagnum moss. (Currently top watered with pH 7.4 tap water)
Anybody out there using Ebb & Flood on CP's like to comment pro/con?
Enough for now....see you all on the list....Clint....
