Pretty widespread on the eastern seaboard of the U.S. Don Schnell's book
has a range map.

funny that you're not doing too well with U.pubescens. I grow them as
I grow most of my tropical Utrics---milled dead Sphagnum in lots of water.
They like partial shade. They grow slowly but flower for me each year.
Strangely, they invaded my pot of D.adelae and seem to really enjoy
growing with it.

Speaking of Utrics, I have a clone of _U.calycifida_ which is flowering
and producing white and yellow flowers (white overall, except a yellow
patch in the proximal palate region of the lower corolla lobe). I'd heard
about this plant but it is nice to see with my own eyes.
