What about _Ruellia makoyana_ (Acanthaceae)? I've heard of this exactly
referred to as "monkey plant." I could probably get you at least a
cutting of this or could look into finding a source for you if you have
no luck finding it with this Latin name... This one is a non-carnivore
with small (approx. 2-3cm) purplish leaves.
