i believe i have a start of a start you sent to andrew marshal
and it is probably divisable by two. the only problime is i believe it
to be infested by scale. yes the little orbes you scraped from under
the scale are eggs. the scales you see are the females one and all. the
males are fly like being very moble what with wings and all. oil based
pestacides will kill the eggs but usualy are not recomended for C.P.
there are predatory beetles _Chilocorus nigritus_ and _Lindorus
lophanthae_ and a parasitic wasp _Metaphycus helvolus_ & _Aphytis
melinus_ . i think the wasps are specific to certan types of scale and i
here they don't stick around very well. i've been using CYGON 2-E on
Sarr's and utrics because i havnt found a sorce for the predators. CYGON
is a brand name for Dimethoate (see the back of the 2nd Slack book) and
is very serious POISON!!!!!!!!!!! i hate the stuff and only get it out
when i'm insanely desperate, but it seems to work very effectavly.
if you can find it you might enjoy a copy of THE ORGANIC GARDENER'S
HANDBOOK OF NATURAL INSECT AND DISEASE CONTROL by Barbara W. Ellis and
Fern Marshall Bradley. its publisheed by Rodale Press ISBD 0-87596-124-X
if i had to give up all my insect books but two this would be one of
them i'd keep. good luck let me know if you want that cuting
