Subject: Plaster sand

My experience, though by no means extensive, is that "Plaster Sand" is
simple natural silica sand used as a filler in plaster for texturing,
primarily the texturing of drywall (sheetrock) in common (US) home
construction. Plaster sand has nothing to do with the plaster itself,
incorrectly described here as gypsum (actually it is primarily anhydrite
with some bassanite).
