I can only speak for how I keep my single H. heterodoxa x ionasii. I
don't know if it is the completely correct way but it seems to work
for me! :-)
I have a 3' aquarium with about 3" of silver sand at the bottom in
which is embedded a soil warming cable. Under the lid are 2 'GroLux'
tubes providing the light. I keep the sand damp to wet at all times
and spray the plants (I have some Nepenthes in there as well) every
couple of days and water from above every few days also. None of the
plants stand in water as they are raised from the base of the aquarium
on blocks of polystyrene.
The whole terrarium setup is kept in an enclosed storeroom at the back
of my brick garage. This means that I can control the photoperiod
without external influences. It also means that I have control over
the heat and it allows the temperature to drop substantially at night.
The downside is that the plants are not in the house so I cannot see
them without going outside and into the garage... :-(
I don't bother measuring temperatures in this environment so can't
comment on specifics but I would guess that it hits a max of about 23C
in the day and drops to anything from 8C to 12C at night.
The plant is potted in a mix of pure sphagnum moss and perlite and is
growing very well.
I am in the UK so I do not get summers which are that hot or winters
that are really cold. This pretty much becomes irrelevant thought
when I keep them in this room in the garage.
If others have different ways of cultivating them then I would love to
hear them.
