Subject: New Jersey Pine Barrens

I took a trip to the New Jersey Pine Barrens this weekend. I only had to
walk 1/4 of a mile before I found D. rotundifolia and D. intermedia. I found
a few larger forms of D. rotundifolia and D. intermedia growing in the shade
along the bank of a creek. There were a few smaller forms of D. rotundifloia
growing along the bank in full sun along with a few all red D. inetmedia. I
followed the creek till I camp to a huge bog. I walked along it's banks
searching for S. pupurea. Then, I saw flower stalks with developing seed
pods rise above some of the native grasses.I looked down and there they
were. Many of the plants grew in clumps of 4 or 5 ,very few grew alone. I
found fishing line and fake bate along the ground and noticed that many
flower stalks had been crushed while people were trying to fish. A sad site.
I never found D. filiformis ssp. filiformis, but I was able to get very nice
pics. of the other cp.
