Greetings folks. I know this chit-chat club is not supposed to have any gratuitous self-promotion stuff on it... but since someone mentioned my book on line and I have received numerous private e-mails, here's the scoop: The Savage Garden was delayed in being published because it turned out to be a much larger and more complex (and fun) book than any of us anticipated. It will hit the bookstores in March. The book is 336 pages, with 225 full color illustrations.. The price is 19.95.

Such a deal! Here at California Carnivores, we will gladly accept orders now for the book, an autographed copy, which of course will go out hot off the presses before the bookstores even get them. (We ask 4.50 for shipping/handling... 2.00 for each additional book.)

There will be plenty of info on the book on our website (californiacarnivores.com) in early January. I must say that Ten Speed Press (they won the Best Horticultural Book of the Year Award 1997 for their North American Trees book) denied me nothing in doing the Savage Garden, it has been a pleasure working with them every step of the way. The senior editor, Mariah Bear, has been very excited about the project, calling the book "truely fabulous, a marvelous book", which of course makes me very happy. So far, that's the only review! I am hoping this book will finally give both novices and collectors alike some good and decent general information on carnivorous plants in cultivation. The book was really a group effort by many people, to all of whom I am deeply greatful. I must say, in closing, that while the actual writing of the book brought me months of pleasure, all of the other work involved really disrupted my normal life of sloth, and was about as much fun as licking butterwort leaves. Thankfully it is over, and I can get back to growing the plants I've been writing about! Peter D'Amato
