Hi everyone,

Thanks Loyd for sharing this new germination technique for temperate CP's.
Such technique was badly needed and I try it by the way. But that brings
up a few questions for you.

- There was already a report in IPSGN of Pinguicula leaves releasing ABA
and thus inhibiting the growth of the whole plant above it. Since then,
I've compared the in-vitro growth of P. moranensis on MS-medium
supplemented with agar or silica sand. The more liquid medium obtained
with sand as a support gave far better results yielding larger plants at a
faster speed. It also helps when the plants are taken out of the flasks to
the greenhouse. But from that experiment, one cannot conclude on whether
this effect reflects the dilution of ABA or the greater availability of
nutrients. Is there any published litterature on the production of ABA by
Pinguicula leaves or seeds?

- GA3 is often used as a seed germination hormone (by the way, a friend
just told me it works great on Sarracenia seeds reducing the germination
time down to no more than two weeks with greater germination yield). It
is also known to suppress some of the effects of ABA in some plant tissues.
Has anyone tryed it as a germination starter for temperate Pinguicula seeds?

Sorry Laurent Ide for having the same first name as you and I apologize to
all of you who get confused about all of these Laurent's poping up on the
CP digest. Laurent is a *very* common first name in french-speaking
countries so that there are three other persons with the same first and
last name as mine at my university (two have been my students!). Just
something to give headhacke to our e-mail manager.
