Subject: Pigeon Devastation

I got home last night to find that a pigeon had managed to squeeze into
(and out of) my cold frame. Total devastation! Anything that had been
growing in a pot with a healthy covering of moss was now a 'has been',
apart from my pots of Drosera filiformis. However everything that had
been mulched with grit survived unscathed. Some of you will be getting
begging letters for replacements!

At a recent cactus society meeting, camphor crystals were recommended
as a deterrent for cats and some of the more difficult pests such as root
mealy bug. I went into the local branch of the near-monopoly pharmacist
and they said that they used to be able to order them as a special, but head
office had now decided that they offered no benefits to customers. So,
please would all Brit subscribers boycott 'Boots', and can anyone tell me
where I can get camphor crystals? There are a few isolated independent
pharmacies I can try.

Regards, NigelH
