Many orchid growers use ultrasound foggers in order to simulate rain forest
conditions in higher altitudes. The electric power brings a quarz cristall
to very fast oscillations (ultrasound frequencies) which are transmitted
to a ceramic membrane. The membrane oscillations cause millions of very
little water drops (fog) to leave the water surface. I use two such systems
to simulate night dew for my Pings. One is named 'Mini-Nebler SA 57-2000'
and produced by Seliger and Imert, Am Krebsgarten 15, D-78048
VS-Villingen, Germany, Fax +49 7721 85 45 61 (costs about 120 US$). The
other one is likely to be produced in east Asia (?) and available in Europe
under the label 'Boneco Ultrasonic Air Comfort' (costs in Switzerland about
170 US$ in household supply stores and about 210 US$ in garden supply
stores). With the ultrasound system the water is not boiled but remains
cold (less electric power costs, no warming up of the air temperature).
