Re: International (???) CPS

Dear Phil, Fernando, Ken, et al

I wanted to reply to several of the points made to my posting about the
international status of the ICPS (sorry for the delay ... long holiday
weekends will do that to me):

While the by-laws may be clear, perceptions are important, and unless the
ICPS does some PR work to clean up these kinds of perceptions (mis- or
otherwise) I'd be afraid that many potential members might not even get to
the point of reading the society's by-laws.

I believe that many past problems with international membership, as has been
pointed out, can be ameliorated with e-mail It is my understanding (Rick,
Christoph, Kevin please correct me if i'm wrong) that much, if not all of the
current ICPS work is done electronically, on a parallel listserv. There are
in some cases thousands of miles between current ICPS officers (and hundreds
between the closest). Now that might preclude international participation of
officers without access to e-mail, but I believe that as well can be worked
out. It would be additional time and effort, but if international
participation IS important to the society (and certainly it should be) that
effort is warranted.

[RICK:] Is there going to be a provision for voting by e-mail? I can imagine
that holiday mail might slow up the process not just abroad, but in the U.S.
as well.

So Phil, it sounds like you can consider yourself enfranchised ... Hey ..
wasn't it paying dues without representation (or some 18th Century analog)
that prompted the formation of that overbearing, jingoistic USA in the first
place? Now, like every good politician (oxymoron?) I'm gonna hold you to that
vote. <grin>

Oh, and one last (entirely unrelated) point:

>> of air. >>

Not that I should divulge, but you haven't seen the "X-Files" screenplay I'm
working ... slowly. (if this show hasn't reached your shores yet, anyone,
e-mail me privately for a lovingly detailed explanation).
