Re: Terrarium sizes

One problem I've had with planting in a terrarium is getting food to the
plants. Insects are not as likely to dive into a fish tank and scrounge a
meal as they are to alight upon a yummy looking leaf, out where they can
see and smell it--or in the case of Drosera, crash land on it. And it
would be next to impossible to move such a large (55 gal.), planted
terrarium out to where insects are abundant. Right now, I have my plants
on my windowsill and balcony, in pots that I keep wet all the time. Also
the ambient humidity in my neck of the woods tends to be above moderate,
thanks to the San Francisco fog. However, I WOULD like to start growing
Nepenthes, without a greenhouse and without a terrarium set up. Is this
possible? Are there species whose growing requirements allow for
fluctuations in temperature and humidity?
