Dear Madeleine Groves and CP'ers,

In the series of pocket-sized guidebooks on local flora and fauna in
Singapore published by the Singapore Science Centre, there is one
entitled " A guide to Medicinal plants". Within it there is a mention
under Nepenthes ampullaria as follows:

"Chemical compounds: Flavonoidal glycoside, anthraquinone glycoside, phenols.

Uses: In Malaysia, the roots are boiled and made into a poultice to treat
stomach ache and dysentry. A decoction of the stem is drunk for fever. "

Here in Singapore, alternative medicine and western medicine co-exist. There
are probably as many "Chinese medicine shops" as there are pharmacies (or
apothecary shops). So, besides "Laughter is the best medicine" ......

Take good care,
Tan, Wee-Kiat
