I have seen the full paper. Since decades at least two species were
described from Marocco: P. lusitanica (coastal regions ) and P. vulgaris
(Er Rif chain). Jan Schlauer also found and published an esxiccata specimen
from Marocco which is clearly P. grandiflora. The newly described P.
fontiqueriana is probably what was considered up to now to be P. vulgaris
to which it seems morphologically rather closely related. Genetical
isolation, specific climate conditions and maybe other pollinators than in
northern regions (although P. vulgaris is frequently self-pollinating)
might have formed a population with distinct differences. Yet I have never
seen a live Ping. specimen from the Marocco mountains.
