In my expreience D. spathulata does not go dormant at all . I would not
call it a tropical plant - at least the forms in southern New South Wales
(NSW) of Australia The form I have - grown form seed ex. Sydney area,
survives regular freezing in its pots - down this winter to about -7oC. It
does not grow much with me in winter but resumes in the spring OK. In the
wild here in Australia it is my experience on the NSW coast south of Sydney
it is usually found in places that stay at least a bit moist more or less
all year round. These areas don't dry out bone dry like those in which
youoften find D. peltata I usually find D. spathulata growing with D.
pygmea and sometimes with D. binata.

Growing it I put it in 50/50 peat sand mix and leave it standing in water.
I find it to be a bit of a weed which seeds itself into lots of other pots
nearby.
