In keeping with the customary introductions of new subscribers of this
group, I am a new member named David Chow, and living in San Francisco,
California, USA. I became interested in carnivorous plants after receiving
one as a gift, and though I unfortunately lost that Dionaea muscipula, my
persistance and interest grew after visiting California Carnivores, a large
nearby collection of CP run by Peter D'Amato. I now have two bog gardens and
several pots on the tray system, all of which include Drosera capensis, D.
aliciae, D. rotundifolia, D. binata, D. filiformis, Sarracenia flava, S.
leucophylla, S. purpurea, Pinguicula vulgaris, and Darlingtonia californica.
All of these, for the time being, are in good health.
As well, I have a question for those more experienced than I; I have
heard several mixtures regarding proper compost for Darlingtonia californica,
most including sphagnum moss, and some with perlite. Does anyone have an
idea mixture that does not necesitate pure live sphagnum moss, which seems to
be the best medium but is next to impossible to obtain? Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated and very helpful.
Thank you.
