Early S. flava phyllodia?

All of my adult S. flava have recently begun to send up phyllodiform
pitchers. There's been no wild changes in environment (other than our cooler
than normal summer here (Washington DC area), no severe drying. Is this
normal? I vaguely recall someone mentioning this phenomemon during mid-summer
heat waves, but it seems odd to me. (Seedling S. flavas continue to send up
normal pitchers, as do larger, recently-transplanted ones). This is not the
first year I've grown pitchers outside, though they have been getting several
additional hours of sun this year than last, due to better strategic
placement (CP beat out Little Tikes this year, to the consternation of my
two-year-old <grin).

Any other DC-area people experiencing this? (Rick? Perry? Mark?)

Anyone? Anyone?

TIA
