I'd say that the large majority of wild Nepenthes in Sarawak have
multiple flower inflorescences per plant. Some, such as N.
ampullaria, N. bicalcarata, N. muluensis, etc. I have seen with
over half a dozen simultaneous spikes at one time. Of course
there is some discrepancy in this trend with different species.
I have never seen more than one spike on a N. northiana or N.
veitchii; this is perhaps due to a higher degree of flowering
suppression or the less extensive branching of these species.

Here in Kuching (about 1.5 degrees north of the equator) the only
seasons are monsoon and dry (though it's certainly never very
"dry"). In this area, most Nepenthes of a given species seem to
flower at the same time. For example, in the case of N.
rafflesiana, N. albomarginata, N. tentaculata, and N. mirabilis,
I'd say that over 90% of the plants I have seen have flowered
simultaneously. Some species, such as N. ampullaria, appear to
send out new flowers over a period of several months, but even
here, there is a definite "peak" flowering period.

As to what triggers each species to flower, I've no clue. Has
anyone with a gro-light setup ever done any experiements on
photperiods with Nepenthes?

Best wishes,

Ch'ien
