Air layering involves making a notch halfway through the step, dusting
with rooting hormone, wrapping the cut with a handful of sphagnum,
and then covering the sphagnum with polyethelyne plastic.
It seems that leaving the stem partly attached to the plant would
vastly increase the chance of success.
