I use an open compost of 1:1:1 houseplant compost:sand:perlite.
Germination can be as short as 1 month, or much longer - I
suspect some will be coming up for months/years after sowing.
Humidity doesn't seem to be a problem - they make easy enough
houseplants here in Wales. They seem to like a largeish pot,
being kept moist, and full sun (though yours is probably hotter,
so you might want to shade them a bit - see how it goes.)
They're impressive when they get up to size, but can get a bit
leggy and need staking if they don't get enough light. It's a
shame the flowers don't smell as nice as Proboscidea - they're
barely scented. You can easily pollinate them, though they won't
self without help or insects. I've taken to feeding mine with a
Phostrogen tablet monthly - this seems to help. I'll have a
photo on my webpage soon (when I can get it scanned in.)

Hope this helps,

Peter
