I have found that the most important factors governing the color of
S. purp. is light intensity and photoperiod. Another factor seems to
be (to a lesser extent) plant age/size. I have found that younger
plants with small pitchers tend to stay greener than older/larger
plants.

For years my S purp was almost 100% green. After increasing the
light intensity by 150% it became almost 100% purple. FYI at that
time I used 4 33 watt florescent grow lights 12" above the plants and
2 15 watt tubes on the sides. I am currently using a 4 tube 40 watt
fixture over my plants with two additional 33 watt tubes on the wall
to fill in light at lower levels. Also, my S. flava and S purp are
now located outside (I live in Northern Virginia USA).
