They sound like greenfly - perversely these are often white (dead?
cast-off skins?) There's an easy way to tell though - tap the plant.
If they fly away, they're whitefly. If they don't, they're greenfly
(or maybe mealy bugs, fluffy scale, whatever.) This makes whitefly
quite a menace, as they'll just distribute themselves around your
collection. I like the yellow card and vaseline idea that was
mentioned the other day - must try it.
