D.capensis - can it rot?

I have two small pots, ca 3inches tall with 1 yr old D capensis
seedlings in. In one pot two healthy plants, 3-4inches long, are
flowering. In the other pot four or five smaller plants are quite
ill. The leaf ends are brown and droopy. Both pots are in a tray
of water about 3/4 inch deep. The ill potfull looked OK until just
recently; we've had a warm spell which has recently broken and its
mild and wet now.
So - is it possible that I've got them too wet? Or
too crowded? There's no sign of bug infestation. Why would one pot
be healthy and the other so ill looking?
Any thoughts welcome
Andy
