Eric
You did not mention what the trouble is so I will guess. I live
in Everett Wa. on the west coast of the United States at 48 deg. North
Lat. (The Puget Sound region) and grow both plants under the same
temperatures as you do.

First D. binta in my greenhouse seems to always go dormant at
this time of year, looking fairly dead it starts to grow again in
March. My friends in Vancouver Canada have cuttings of the same plant
growing out side all year in an artificial bog where the crown of the
plant dies completely and the plant returns form the root in the
spring.

Next D. capensis. It can receive the same care as D. binata. In
my green house however it sometimes gets FUNGUS. A blue green mold or
gray mold. For me the trouble is too much humidity and not enough
heat. I can not afford more heat, and the humidity is what it is here
on the edge of a rain forest but there is a cure. I cut off the top of
the plant at the soil level and it returns from the roots in late
March or Mid April usually having multiplied as the result. This can
also be done to D. binata but I have not needed to.

I hope this helps, if not let us know a bit more about the exact
trouble.

krs
