How I got interested in CP...

Hi everyone !

My name is Bruno Moncorge. I'm french and the last "e" in my name takes an
acute accent, which internet doesn't allow me to write...

I'm almost absolutely new to internet, and already fascinated by the wide
and numerous possibilities of this network, and I bumped almost by chance
into the web home page of CP, to my greatest but delighted surprise. My lack
of experience explains, by the way, why I sent my e-mail address instead of
my name on subscribing. I don't even know if I can correct this...

I am not new at all to the culture of carnivorous plants, although all my
attempts have miserably failed after a while...

I got interested in CP at the age of 14, during a bird watching trip to
the Jura, one of the rare places in France where Drosera rotundifolia
still grows. There was of course absolutely no question for me to take
any plant with me, for I knew very well that the plant was both
protected and endangered.

So I slowly forgot my love for it until a trip to the huge peatbogs of
Ireland made me re-discover D.rotundifolia and its sisters D.intermedia and
anglica. I took a couple of plants with me, on some sphagnum, and came back
home (in Paris...) with it (By the way, can anyone tell me if the plants,
which are very wide-spread there, are protected as well ? If so, I'm
sincerely sorry for taking some. Having no contact whatsoever with anyone
trying to grow CP, I did it through sheer ignorance...)

Anyway, have renewed the experience a number of times during the past 15
years (Yes, I like Ireland, and Scotland as well...), I came to the
conclusion that:
- Either the air of Paris isn't good for Drosera (which is probably true,
anyway...)
- Or I didn't take care of the plant well (which is certainly true - lack of
experience + sometimes neglect - e.g. how to respect the seasonal biorhythm
of the plant ?)
- Or the plants could not adapt to such a drastic change in environment
- And it was technically very difficult to grow the plants in a humid enough
atmosphere for it to be fine but for fungi not to come and kill it...

So, sorry to be so talkative. In summary, I'm a Drosera lover of unfortunate
love. But maybe your experience will help me try again...
