Yesterday evening, I went to a lecture at our local Cactus and
Succulent Society - I bet you think I've posted to CP rather
than CACTI_ETC accidentally, but no: the lecture was by
Dr. Peter Brandham, of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, on a trip
he made in the early 1980s to the 'Lost World' of Mt. Roraima
in Guyana and Venezuela. I didn't really expect to see cacti
or succulents (I was correct too!), but we knew that Dr. Brandham's
lectures and photographs were always spectacular, and many of the
Society members grow lots of things other the cacti and succulents.

The one thing I hadn't realised grew there were carnivorous plants,
so I got a pleasant surprise as we were treated to Brocchinia with
its vase inhabited by Utricularia quelchii, Drosera montana, several
other Utrics, a vast array of orchids, and many species and
families I had never heard of, not to mention frogs, spiders,
scorpions etc.

If you ever get a chance to hear Dr. Brandham, then don't miss it!
