The contamination in rainwater is dust from your roof. In built up
areas this means lead and other such stuff from car exhausts, guano, and
any smoke and fumes from nearby factories and open fires. I've seen a
diverter advertised, which measures water coming down the spout - it
dumps the first few litres then collects the rest. It's available in Nz
but I've no idea about suppliers elsewhere.
