Robert St-Jean wrote about the dramatic results from feeding his
Nepenthes crickets. I have an alata in a basket of NZ spaghnum
in my kitchen which produced one pitcher earlier this spring and
sat and waited. The first pitcher is about 2 inches (5 cm) long.
Over the last month or so, it has captured 3 or 4 flies - the
second pitcher just opened its lid for business and is about
twice the size of the first. It seems as if these beasties are
not designed for root feeding are they? It seems to be quite
happy in my kitchen and as long as it is happy; I'm happy!
