Re the desirability of wild vs. cultivated plants, I have had fairly
extensive experience with orchids and some with cp, and I can absolutely
assure you without fear of contradiction that wild collected plants are
much more difficult to grow than a cultivated version. I have owned wild
collected plants, purchased legally from importers at various orchid
shows, and I have owned the same plants purchased from growers, and in
every situation the contrast has been remarkable. The fatality rate on
the wild plants is much more acute, and the strength of growth is always
lesser for a wild plant than for one cultivated.

I will not purchase any more wild collected orchids, no matter the origin.
I believe the same situation would apply to cp, because the native
conditions under which many cp grow, especially nepenthes) are so
different to virtually anyone's greenhouse or natural condition in this
country.
