N. tobaica cuttings

Terry, I had success this past summer with a cutting of N. tobaica. My
method was to construct a long trough {closed at the ends} of PVC rain
gutter. I cut this to the length of an old aquarium and placed it in the
middle lengthwise. I filled the trough with moistened P4, which is sold in
the U.S. as a moisture retaining soil additive. The P4 polymer crystals turn
into a clear gelatin (jelly) like substance. I filled the tank with one half
inch of water to increase humidity. The cuttings were dipped in a standard
Rootone powder and placed in the 3 inch depth of P4. The tank was covered to
ensure humidity and placed under two 40 watt Vita-Lites (full spectrum
florescents). I've also had success growing S. purpurea in this polymer (as
a soil-less medium). I hope this method was not a fluke and will work for
some of the more difficult to strike Nep's. :) Mike
