Andreas Wistuba's CP

I'm getting together a group of U.S. growers to buy plants from Andreas
Wistuba next spring. He is a CP grower in Germany. I got a letter from him
today. Here's the news:

He'll send the plants by regular post for 25 DM (Deutche Marks) for the whole
package. This will get here in about a week. Express mail costs 140 DM per
kilogram and will take 2-3 days. The big increase in cost for the slightly
quicker delivery isn't worth it.

He guarantees that we get our money back for plants that arrive in bad
condition.

CITES certificates are 10 DM for every 4 Nepenthes species (all Nepenthes are
in Appendix II of CITES). The list of requested species sent to Andreas last
month numbered about 20, so there will be a 50 DM charge.

Prices for 1994 will not differ much from 1993 prices. The 1994 price list
isn't available yet.

Discounts for particular species: N. rajah - 10 plants for 50 DM each,
N. macfarlanei - 10 plants for 20 DM each, N. veitchii (highland) -
5 plants for 50 DM each. More people need to buy N. macfarlanei to get the
discount. Enough people are buying the other two to get the discount.

He has a wholesale list, but the species are propagated on demand by tissue
culture and will take up to 8 months before they're ready to sell.

He's not sure if he'll have N. x dicksoniana or N. ampullaria by next spring.
I'll take these off the list.

When I receive the plants from Andreas, I'll send them out the same day by 2nd
Day Priority Mail, C.O.D. for shipping charges.

There are about 12 people who expressed interest in buying plants. The 75 DM
for shipping and CITES charges will be divided evenly so each will add
6.25 DM to the total price of the plants they buy.

The current exchange rate is $.5933 per Mark - multiply the DM by .5932 to
change currency to U.S. dollars.

So, send e-mail to the address "drosera@gnu.ai.mit.edu" telling me what
species you want to buy. I'll send the list to Andreas the second week of
December and tell him these are our "final selections". If he has extra
species like N. ampullaria available, we can just add them later. I'll
request that he send us verification that all the species are available and
reserved for us and to send us a final price quote by the end of January. We
need to get our requests in early because many desirable species tend to sell
out early. Send checks the first week of April and I'll send Andreas a money
order as soon as all the checks come in. I'll request the plants be sent the
first week of May to be sure the cold weather is over.
