I've used some high-powered halogen lamps (I hope these are the same as your
halide ones) that are used for photographic lighting at work and there are a
few things to watch out for. There is good reason why the company you
mentioned is selling ventilation systems - these lamps get very hot! In fact,
they can be used for heating - I use lamps of about 600W and these produce lots
of heat. Halogen lights also produce some UV light which may or may not be a
problem. You may be better off with lighting designed for plant growing, which
has been discussed in the group not so long ago. Any ideas anyone?
