The first Sarracenia flower opened today from a plant of S. flava.
Was it Don Schnell who first said the flower "had a faint feline odor"?
IMO, the flower REEKED like cat piss! Very strong odor!

The temperatures reached the 80's yesterday for the first time this year.
The average high is 72 and the average low is 52. We have 14 hours of
daylight too. It doesn't get dark until nearly 9 o'clock.

I met a fellow on the net who is going to Indonesia for three weeks in June
and July. He said he may be able to collect Nepenthes seeds for us. I'm
sending him the Nature Malaysiana magazine. He is visiting Borneo, Java,
and Bali. He shouldn't have any trouble finding them in Borneo. Jan,
which species grow in Java and Bali and how common are Nepenthes on these
islands? Also, is there a definite flowering season for Nepenthes or do they
flower year-round (like most tropical plants)?

I got an e-mail from Leo Song yesterday (gosh - I feel honored!). He said
he may join us later if he gets his home computer working with the modem
he has (he has a Mac, plus a laptop).
