"local wisdom" has it that water from the Hetch Hetchy reservoir
is CP safe. In Palo Alto we have that, so I use tap water with
no problems. Last year Palo Alto started mixing in well water, which
was horrible, so I started using bottled water.

I think if you've been using tap water for a couple years you're
probably OK. Geoff Wong in Palo Alto also uses tap water,
although he has a device with which he can check the water
quality, and he also has a water filter which he hooks up if the
water is indicated of being not pure enough for CP.
