JON!
AS I MENTIONED, I MYSELF MOSTLY USE MERCK AGAR, BUT I KNOW A LOT OF
PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE BEST RESULTS WITH THE DIFCO BACTO AGAR. ABOUT ONE
YEAR AGO I HAPPENED TO GET SOME _PHYTARGEL_ FROM SIGMA...THATS A
MIXTURE OF NATURAL (PURIFIED) AGAR AND SYNTHETIC GELLING AGENTS.
THE STUFF WAS NOT BAD FOR SOME _ACHILLEA_ SPECIES I WAS WORKING WITH,
ALTHOUGH THE RESULTS FROM ROOTING EXPERIMENTS WITH MICROPROPAGATED
SHOOTS OF _TUSSILAGO_, _GENTIANA_ AND A FEW OTHER SPECIES WERE NOT
SATISFYING AT ALL.
I THINK YOU JUST HAVE TO TRY OUT EVERY SINGLE COMPOUND YOU WANT TO
USE IN YOUR SPECIAL CASE...I REPEATEDLY TALKED WITH PEOPLE WHO
WORKED WITH THE SAME SPECIES AS I DID, WITH COMPARABLE RESULTS, AND
SOME OF THE MAIN PARAMETERS WERE EXTREMELY DIFFERENT (GROWTH HORMONES,
LIGHT, PH ETC.).

kind regards,
chris
