Subject: December issue of CPN

Hey Folks,

I am proud to inform all that the December issue of CPN has gone to the
printer. This issue, I am pleased to say, is dedicated to Adrian Slack.

This issue has been a few years in the making, and many people have
contributed to it.

Alas, not only is this dedication issue for Slack long overdue, it is also
a little behind publication schedule---expect it to be about a week later
than usual. With luck, the USA members will get their December issue
BEFORE their new USA president is selected. In any event, every member
should have his or her issue before the end of December. I am sorry about
this delay---it is mainly due to travels and recent surprise distractions
to my schedule.

The horticulturists on this list will be absolutely thrilled, I am sure,
by the amazingly beautiful Sarracenia 'Adrian Slack', which will be
gracing the cover of the December issue. This is, without qualification,
the most beautiful hybrid I have ever seen. In fact, when I first saw
photographs of it, I thought it was one of those photoshop-enhanced fakes
we are occasionally asked to believe---it is that incredible!

Other exciting elements in this issue: another Slack cultivar named by
Peter D'Amato (Sarracenia 'Vintage Slack'), and also Pinguicula
'Aphrodite' and Cephalotus 'Hummer's Giant'.

The back cover photograph is of Homo sapiens 'Adrian Slack' himself, taken
by Martin Cheek in 1999.

Still more: a set of reminiscences on Slack by various associates, etc.; a
comprehensive listing of Slack's cultivars, including never-before printed
photos of two of them; an article on Drosera slackii (including a rare
photo of this plant in flower!); Aldrovanda TC media; and a review of
several new kid's books on CP.

I'll be travelling until 15 December, so if you have questions about life,
etc., it will have to wait until then.

Cheers

Barry
