Subject: S. flava var flava versus S. flava var rugelii

I was looking at Don Schnell's paper on Sarracenia flava varieties (CPN
1998 p 116-120) and the difference between S. flava var flava and S.
flava var rugelii is not clear to me. Is the distinguishing feature that
S. flava var rugelii has no pigmented venation whereas S. flava var flava
has "variably prominent red venation " (but presumably cannot vary to the
point of not visible) - or is it that S. flava var rugelii has a larger
lid?

Thanks for any clarification
Rich
