Subject: which cps grow in ...

Dear Tom (& al. with similar questions),

> I know that South Africa is full of cp... but for Burkina Faso... ?

There are a number of +/- sophisticated ways to find this out, but I
would like to recommend a particularly simple and straightforward
one.

In fact quite a number of people have asked such or similar questions
before, and - believe it or not - it can be quite time-consuming to
get even an approximate answer. But help is available from the wwweb:

Go to the cp database:
http://www2.labs.agilent.com/bot/cp_home

find out the ISO-code (two-letter) for the country you want to check
(HINT:
http://www.din.de/gremien/nas/nabd/iso3166ma/codlstp1/en_listp1.html)
, in your case Burkina Faso: BF, and enter the search string:
L:.* BF

In the weird language of the cp database, this means:
find all entries with a distribution line (beginning with "L:"),
which contains the partial string " BF", possibly amongst other text.

In a majority of cases, you will get the information you are looking
for (check the output if this is the case). In your case you would
get:

_Utricularia gibba_
_U. raynalii_
_U. reflexa_
_U. stellaris_

> Any africa specialists here who can enlight us?

In your particular case, you would require an Africa + cps
specialist (very rare!) if you do not want to use the cp database.

Kind regards
Jan
(who spent a few hours researching/editing the data for the cp
database, and who once wanted to know which cps grow in Albania;
BTW: Hi Rick, any chance to implement a button for case-sensitive
searches? ;-))
