The term "proto-carnivorous" is unfavourable because it suggests that
we can *predict* an evolutionary course. This is (as far as we
observe natural phenomena, i.e. not man-made "evolution") not the
case.

Instead, I propose to use the term "sub-carnivorous", which is less
presumptuous.

Otherwise, I agree with your argumentation.
